Just a quick note to urge you not to miss the celebrated actor, David Soul (Hutch out of Starsky and Hutch) reading Pablo Neruda’s poetry at the Poet in the City fund-raising evening of Chilean poetry and wine on September 27, 2011. The Spanish versions of the poems will be read by the Chilean actor and poet, Alfredo Cordal. There will be top-quality Chilean wine available, as well as nibbles. My talks on Neruda’s last days at the wonderful El Sueño Existe festival in Machynlleth, north Wales

Just to say that I gave two talks on Neruda’s last days at the magnificent El Sueño Existe festival in Machynlleth, north Wales, on Augsut 13 and 14, 2011. I also read – in Spanish and English – what were probably two of the last poems Neruda ever wrote, both of them exquisite jewels.

This festival, organised by a friend of mine, Tony Corden, is a superb mixture of Latin American music and poetry which takes place in the small Welsh town every two years. I cannot recommend it too highly – give yourselves a treat next time!

I am organising an evening at London’s Roundhouse on October 19,2010 dedicated to exploring the life of the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, examining his current relevance, and commemorating – with unique film and recording – his historic Roundhouse recital of 40 years ago.
Here’s what the official Roundhouse website says:

This event includes fascinating insights and anecdotes by Adam Feinstein – Neruda’s acclaimed biographer – together with recollections of Neruda by his friend, and leading British expert on his poetry, Dr Robert Pring-Mill, filmed shortly before his death in 2005.

Readings of Neruda’s poems are provided by (amongst others) Mary Gifford-Brown, Lucy Tregear and Alfredo Cordal, with additional extracts of Neruda himself reading poems filmed and recorded at the Roundhouse 40 years ago.

Poetry for Haiti – reading in London on Saturday, January 30, 2010

Just to let you know that there will be a poetry reading in London this Saturday (January 30, 2010), starting at 2.30 pm to raise money for the victims of the terrible earthquake in Haiti. The event has been organised at short notice by the Poet Laurate, Carol Ann Duffy, and will feature the participation of twenty leading poets, including my mother, Elaine Feinstein, and Andrew Motion, Carol Ann’s predecessor as Poet Laureate. The event will take place at Central Hall Westminster, Storey’s Gate, London, SW1H 9NH (telephone: 020 7222 8010). It’s opposite the Houses of Parliament – near Westminster Tube. Bear in mind that the Jubilee Line will be out on Saturday but the District Line is running normally, as far as I know. Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased online from the website of the Hay Festival (which is supporting the event) at www.hayfestival.com or you can pay on the door, but I’m told that, if you decide to pay when you arrive, you have to do so with cash only. All proceeds go to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
